Mexico, Tasmania & Our Future

Hola / Hello !

It has been a month since we last wrote. We would like to inform you of our recent travels, provide a brief outline of our future plans, as well as give you options to support us in pioneering a Christian Surfers mission in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

Puerto Escondido, Mexico

In October, Mike joined Mando Velasquez and 5 other Christian Surfers leaders in a visit to Puerto Escondido, where we (the Allbutt family) and Velasquez family plan to move to next year.

The five CS leaders will become the initial members of the board of directors for Mexico, and they will provide oversight and support for the team when it arrives next year.

We had the opportunity to show them around the town, visit local pastors, reconnect with surfing Christians and other local friends, discuss long term accommodation options, price living expenses and set-up costs, and of course, we went surfing a few times.

We also spent time discussing the possible ministry opportunities. These include:
  1. Be Jesus to the surfers in PE
  2. Pray for the community/surfers etc.
  3. Run surfers bible studies
  4. Minister to other tourists at the beach break
  5. Have short term teams
  6. Establish a Mexican Christian Surfing ministry run by nationals
  7. Run a kids club in our neighbourhoods
  8. Participate in the life of the local Churches
  9. Assist the under-resourced Christian orphanage
  10. Minister to the families who live at the town rubbish/trash/dump site
As you can see, we will have our work cut out for us. The job is large and currently the workers are few. Please pray for God's sufficiency. We want to get started and move there as soon as possible as "the harvest is ready".

Time spent in Tasmania

While Mike was away, Vanessa and Priscila headed over to Tasmania. Priscila's Nanna and Papa really enjoyed having their granddaughter around -- and there are a few photos to prove it.

The Foreseeable Future

We are planning to move to Mexico for an initial commitment of 5 to 10 years. Our long term goal is to have a Mexican Christian Surfing ministry made up of Mexicans operating effectively. This will take time, and we will need to overcome many different obstacles. We believe we have a suitable ministry plan that will enable this goal to be achieved.

Our desire is to move to Mexico in February 2006. The next steps we need to take include:

Joining Pioneers (in partnership with CS)
Receive approval and be comissioned from our home Church - DVBC
Obtain a suitable Visa to live in Mexico
Raise enough support to live
Visit our families in Tasmania and Queensland pre departure
