Mike's Wedding Reception Speech
My grooms wedding day speech
On behalf of the lovely Mrs Allbutt and I, we'd like to thank you all for joining us on this momentous occasion. Enough of the speech? Thanks for coming. (sit down)? Only kidding.
It's great now that we're married, because everyone knows that once you get married, all conflicts stop between you and your partner. (Vanessa says, "Miiike". Mike says, "IT'S TRUE!".)
Not only have I acquired a lovely bride, but also I've actually found someone who thinks I'm alright. What she doesn't know though is, that I'm not just all right, but Allbutt. So, since two butts are better than one, we can start to make one BIG, happy family.
Well, enough of the serious stuff. Let me tell you a story?? An Anglo-Saxon once owned a pizza in a shop in Melbourne?. While he was making a pizza?Oh, there's no point in finishing this story - you all know it couldn't be true. But?
What is true is, I never thought I would live in Melbourne, but as things turned out, it became a necessity. I wanted to get out of Tassie and move back to Mexico but, after lengthy, intense, discussions with the occupational therapy staff at Latrobe, they were not prepared to re-locate the University where Vanessa studies, to the surfing Mecca - Puerto Escondido. My hands were tied, so I thought, "If she isn't moving, then, I must because I need my hands untied to tie my own knot. I packed all my important, most precious possessions? my Bible, my laptop, my printer, my mouse, my scanner, my zip drive, my software CD's, my hammer (at times for the computer, but mainly for carpentry) and my thongs.
(Brett motions to Mike to hurry up)
(Mike says, hang on Brett, who's running this show, you or me?)
Well, we're out of time, but before I leave my final point is?
To say thankyou to all you guests for coming and participating. Some of you have come a long way from all over Australia From Cairns to Hobart. Vanessa and myself really appreciate your friendship and the relationships that have been developed in the respective times that we've know you. You were all invited here because you are all special to us in your own different ways. So thankyou.
My second final point is?
Thankyou to our parents. We like you a fair bit. Please continue to?(Vanessa talks about her parents and Danny)
(Mike talks about his parents, Sharon and Roslyn)
So thankyou.
My third final point is..
Thankyou for all the methods of appreciation you've bestowed upon us, whether that be in the way of cards, presents, money, prayers?. We really appreciate your generosity in this regard. So thankyou.
My forth final point is? (this reminds me of a sermon I once did where I sucked people into thinking I would be finishing shortly), Anyway?
Thankyou to all those who did the various things to make this day special.
God, for making and overseeing the day and just enabling it to happen. Isn't it wonderful how He makes every new day, (whether it's rainy or sunny) - and gives us life and opportunity to live for Him.
Vanessa - for turning up on time (she was the one in white). Doesn't she look gorgeous. She looks great in this wedding dress and I'm certain that she'll still look stunning when she's not in it.
(Jeff - Oh, you mean in her favourite blue jeans and green T-shirt)
(Mike - Yeah, that's it Jeff)
Those who helped with the making of the costumes we're wearing today. Personally I put in a special effort to wear something nice. Quite rare I know! It looks like you all did to. So thankyou.
Also thankyou to all those who helped in making this place and the Church look nice.
To Vince and Heather for making sure you got all those nice invitations out (and while on the topic of Vince and Heather), thankyou again for producing an outstanding daughter. I will look after her well. (HELENA)
And lets not forget The caterers, that is, both here and at the Church (even though I don't need to thank them because we're paying for them - but thanks anyway. (Pity the beans were burnt)
And, my fifth final point is,
Thankyou to all those who made today run smoothly? the ushers, the drivers, the photographer, the cake maker, My Tassie mate Bretto for Mcing this shing-dig ? and Neil, for being suitably qualified to enable this reception to happen. If it wasn't for you, I couldn't legally go on this well earnt honeymoon with Vanessa. Thanks Barney, I'll be thinking of you, if I have a spare moment.
My sixth and final, final point is?
Thanks to the bridal party. Thanks Vanessa, Thanks Jeff, Pete, Daniel, Miriam, Melissa and Ros (haven't I seen you before somewhere? That's right, you're my twin sister) Thanks for coming and sharing this day.
Have I forgotten anyone. If so, thanks, come and see Vanessa later. Good night, God bless. (Impromtue loud applause will happen) I wasn't meant to read that.
Toast - I want to propose a toast now to the bridesmaids. Why?? I don't know, you just do that at weddings. (Jeff - they look nice) Oh yeah, thanks.
